Kaomoji - Project Misaki

Kaomoji is a worldwide known Clothing brand based in the Netherlands, they're known for ther Japanese and anime inspired designs. I was asked to draw a mascot based on a Japanese schoolgirl and to make Screenprintable illustrations for a new clothing line, her name is Misaki!

It was fun and challenging to work in this style and make something that translated well on a shirt. It was a fun ride and definitly something I'd love to do again sometime!

I was asked to make a sweet looking girl in a very typical anime style and setting, she had to look sweet and kind of shy. These were some first ideas.

Later on the decision was made to have her look dreamy and having something catching her attention in the second panel. I made it so we could make it a typical manga setting.

In the end the decision was made to spice things up a bit and make her sassy instead! It is implied that someone tries to tease her - but she bites back by putting her foot down, literally.

In the end I had to simplify the lineart because it had to translate well because of the screenprinting, at the same time there should be enough detail to make it look good still!
